In a lot of ways, pride is Galileo's greatest weakness. He can act incredibly selfish, moody, and self-centered, and even downright rude. He's flighty, though often without realizing it, ignoring others in favour of what he's focusing on at the time. He can get snippy with others when he's busy, though rarely is it meant to be taken personally. Generally the man feels that his brain is processing so much at every given moment that he needs to dictate who's talking to him and when. Galileo's quite fierce when it comes to something he wants. If it's outwitting someone or just settling a dispute between students, he doesn't often back down. Let it not be said however, that this man is uncompassionate. Emotionally stunted perhaps, but sympathetic. It pains him to see others in a state of vulnerability, and will often times take it upon himself to calm the situation. He will, however, make a hasty exit in favour of his own company, as watching others in pain hits far too close to his own issues, which he's so good at ignoring most of the time. Galileo takes great solace in outer space and is something of a science enthusiast. During times of turmoil it's not uncommon to find him draped over astrology books, or else curled up with Morgan Freeman's "Through the Wormhole" on dvd. While one primary caregiver explained the rational and logical shifting of the earth, laws of nature, and cycle of the heavens, the other taught him the teachings of an omnipotent being keeping watch over the planet. As a boy wanting little else than to impress his parents, Galileo spent the majority of his life being molded to his parents' individual liking. As he grew older, though, it became increasingly hard to take his mother's blind conviction seriously, especially when, after questioning something inconsistent, she never supplied a definitive answer. Indeed, she'd even react angrily, as if Galileo had done something wrong. But when the same occurred with his father and the man didn't know, they'd discover it together (be it through research or with their own hands), always with the excitement of learning something new. Shortly after beginning secondary school, however, Galileo's world was turned upside down. An incident involving alcohol, his parents' arguing, and a set of stairs resulted in the death of his father. The boy's mother, having fallen into a depression, sought happiness with religion and regularly insisted her son do the same, even going so far as to make him feel guilty for not praying for his father's soul. As a result of this personal attack, coupled with years of pent up frustration, Galileo eventually had enough and soon after arranged temporary housing with a schoolmate. It didn't take him long to find a part-time job that he juggled along with school, all the while refusing to grieve for the loss of his father. To this day Galileo holds a strong resentment against his mother, as she was present the night his father died. While she claims to never have pushed him, a drunken fight had escalated to the point of physical contact, and he's never been entirely convinced of her innocence. After finishing his necessary years of schooling, Galileo fled his home town of Carlingford in favour of Dublin where he received a low-level teaching degree. Because of his mother's sudden resurfacing into his life, Galileo opted out of college along with the country.
