He doesn't know this and likes to think that he has a great, great, great, great, great ninja grandfather from Japan. But Espio doesn't even look Japanese. Espio's grandmother- Naomi Akero- was Japanese, but he wasn't related to her through blood. Espio had two grandmothers, not just Naomi, but a woman named Belle Noir, who Espio is blood related to. Belle and Naomi had three children, the father being a friend named Anthony Maine, who was more than glad to help out his two friends with getting children. These children- Espio's father and two uncles- were given Noami's surname after birth because she wanted to show that she was related to the children too, even if not by blood. Espio lived with his parents, sister- named Siri- and three cousins when he was growing up. His cousins have lived with him since he was four and he barely remembers a time when they weren't there. The three moved in after their parents were caught in a car crash. Espio didn't like most of them. He always fought with the eldest, ignored the youngest and only enjoyed the middle child of the cousins. Joshua, Rudolf and Faery. Oldest to youngest in that older. Rudolf was one of the few that Espio would call a friend growing up. But Joshua and Espio always fought over who the man of the house was. Espio's father was often away on business, so they made it their duty to look after all of the women. Or they tried. Growing up, school was always Espio's favorite place to be. He loved learning and getting higher grades than every other kid around him. The instant he came home after school, he was doing his homework and studying, just refusing to let anything be handed in late. If he had to do a project with a partner, he would do the entire project himself and claim that they both did it. The last thing he wanted was for the partner to slack off, do a bad job, or not even finish their half of the work. So Espio did all of it himself. If he got anything less than an A, he would lock himself in the school bathroom and cry the rest of his day away. Espio was always the target of bullies. He was a very moody boy who overreacted about everything and his emotions changed constantly. The instant you insulted him, he would be angry and throw a fit of carefully picked profanity. Bullies loved Espio because getting a reaction out of him was easy. He was small and scrawny- and PE was the only class he allowed himself to fail because he was lazy- so throwing him around was easily. He was often shoved into trash cans, locked in the lockers, or found with his head being forced into toilets. At a younger age, Espio always tried to fight back and never won. So he learned that his best bet was to run and hide. Whether it was in lockers, bathrooms, classrooms or under teacher's desks, he wanted to get away without bruises. But Espio always made the mistake of provoking his bullies first before running. Despite his high marks, he was pretty dumb, always taking a chance to yell or throw things at the bullies in the hallway. There were several times in Espio's life when he broke into the teacher's computer to change his marks to A's. Computer hacking had become Espio's specialty. It took a lot of trial and error and there is still no way he could hack anything he was paid to do, but he's learning. He has built computers from scratch and has learned them inside and out. The internet is his best friend and computer hacking is his favorite hobby. He always thought he was the funny kid for hacking into the computers at school and leaving porn on the dashboards. Kids would laugh when the teacher brought up a power point, played around with by Espio, to show inappropriate words and images. Despite being a straight A student, Espio was known to be thrown into a lot of detentions in school. And every time he was caught, he would learn from his mistake and search for better ways to do whatever he'd done, but without getting caught at all. Aside from the internet and his cousin, Rudy, Espio had one childhood friend who had mixed feelings for. This boy, Robert Ward, was easily his best friend. They didn't see each other often due to Espio living in America and Robert living in England, but their fathers were best friends and the children were the same. But Robert got into some activities that made Espio uncomfortable about. His friend had taken up a gang and whenever Espio asked why or how, Robert laughed it off and said it didn't matter because he was happy. He said the gang was like his family now and Espio should join so that the family would be complete. Espio wasn't interested. Gangs meant drugs, alcohol and killing, all of which Espio wasn't interested in outside of video games. So he turned down the offer. On several occasions, Espio helped Robert's gang. He refused to join under any circumstance, but Robert often came to him in need of a computer 'genius's' skills. Espio liked being called a genius... and Robert was his best friend. He was paid to hack computers, install cameras and even attempt to work on a security system- which Espio is still working on to this very day. He dreams of being the next Tony Stark. Only not fictional. He has many projects he's working on... inventions that he thinks will make his life easier. But he knows he's still young and hopes he has a long time ahead of him to master his talents. Espio has only recently moved to Japan to attend Chishiki Academy. The reason for it being that his father told him that it was 'the best of the best' and Espio would gain the education that he deserves there, without any short-skirted females to distract him. Espio got uncomfortable shivers down his spine at the sight of scantily clad females. He hated looking at them. But Chishiki Academy was a sausage fest. He hated being surrounded by this many men in what he calls a very 'gay atmosphere.' Espio isn't sure if his father told the truth about the academy being a successful one, or if he'd just said that to finally get the kid out of the house for once in his life. But Espio is really iffy about being here. He will not go within five meters of a lake, ocean or even a large pond. The boy doesn't even step into the bathtub. And showers? Once a week. More if there's someone throwing him over their shoulder to throw him in there. But Espio procrastinates for as long as he can when it comes to showers. He nearly drowned at the age of eight because a group of older bullies thought it would be a fun prank to throw him off a dock. At least one of those bullies had the heart to go after him once they realized he wasn't coming back up for air. Espionage is a nickname that he has gone by since he was small. It's what his friends and father call him as well as the name he introduces himself as. His mother still calls him Abel, but he hates it and considers it to be 'too religious' for his liking. Unlike Espionage, which makes him think of ninjas and spies, which had been his obsession back when he asked his father if this could be his new name. Espio signs his papers with this name and was even registered in school with this name. But his ID, birth certificate and government exams all say his real name, much to his displeasure. He tries to hide it. Homosexuality is a secret that he keeps from everyone, even himself. The boy has been raised around homophobia, having it nailed into his brain that gay is wrong. He often had bullies laughing at him and calling him gay, which made him realize it had to be a bad thing and that it was something he never wanted to be. Espio is in absolute denial of his sexuality. There's a fluttering in his stomach when he sees two men kiss or hold hands? Espio assumes this fluttering means he wants to vomit at the sight. He refuses to believe that, maybe, he wants to be one of those guys. Beside Espio's bed, no matter where he's sleeping, he has a backpack. If you lay a hand on it, he will lunge at you and insist that you keep your hands off. If you ask what's in it, he says you'll find out when the world ends. This pack pack contains his zombie survival kit. Everything he thinks he will need to survive the zombie apocalypse when it comes- which he is sure it will happen any day now. Inside is a thick binder filled with countless pages of information that he has typed out and printed from his computer, all on the different zombies from different movies/books and how to kill/avoid them.
