Theo smothered a yawn as he waited for his toast to pop, absently running a hand through his hair. He hated marking papers, so he had left them as long as possible. Which, in turn, had led to an all-night marking session. He wasn't quite done, but he had a day to finish them up and go through them once again with any final comments. The man had a bizarre system, but it worked. Grabbing his toast as it finished cooking, the teacher continued to gather his breakfast, finishing with the largest cup of coffee the cafeteria had. Oh coffee. He needed a lot if he was going to make it through the day.
Settling at a deserted table, he glanced around as he took a drink of his coffee It was early, so most students weren't yet awake let alone thinking about breakfast. Still, there were a few faces around, and Theo wondered if any had pulled all-nighters like he had. Probably, given the point in the semester. Digging into his breakfast with relish, the teacher tried not to think about the day to come. This was a time for him to relax, enjoy his food, and people-watch.

still, it was hard to argue the demerits of such an action. he was usually in the cafeteria earlier than anyone else - only slightly later than the custodians - and often managed to help out with some cleaning while getting his breakfast and making small talk with anyone who would listen.
pushing the door to the cafeteria open, he made a beeline for the cornflakes, letting out a barely audible (but childish, nonetheless) murmur of "come to meeee" as he did so.
with his mission to secure a bowlful of cornflakes complete, he proceeded to look for a seat.
the cafeteria was, as expected, mostly vacant at this time of the day. there were a few students sitting around, and he contemplated sitting with one of them - it never hurt to widen his social circle, after all - before a mop of brown hair at one of the empty tables caught his eye.
"morning, sensei!" he greeted, a bashful smile spreading across his face as he motioned towards the empty seat beside the man. "mind if i sit here?" A few more sips of coffee between mouthful of food, the teacher started to feel more alert. Rolling his shoulders to ease the tension that had built up in them over the long night, Theo continued to eye the cafeteria as he ate. Things were fairly quiet, with some people finishing their breakfast and leaving while a few more arrived. A few of the students looked in his direction and waved or nodded in greeting, but no one stopped to chat. Not that he minded - they were probably hungry and not ready to hang out with one of their teachers yet.
He watched the gardener arrive and go straight to the breakfast cereal section, but was concentrating on finishing off his fried egg when the younger man approached. "Good morning, Fujioka-san. Not at all." he replied with a smile of his own, using one hand to pull out the chair a little. More company was always welcome.
Settling back in his seat with his coffee in one hand and toast in the other, Theo waited for Fujioka to settle in before asking, "So, how are things going?" They might not know each other well, but Theo was always eager to become friends with the other staff.
